Your dog’s water requirement . . . .
You may not know this, but your dog could die within three days without water. Your dog may be able to live three weeks without food, but again, could die within three days without water. Water is necessary for
- digestive processes
- temperature regulation
- nutrient absorption
- moving fluids and solids between organs of the body
My point, here, is don’t forget to water your dog. Water is vital for survival. At all times and be sure you have clean water readily available for your dog. Some people recommend providing clean water in a dish made of stainless steel. I don’t know whether or not there is any intrinsic benefit to using stainless steel as opposed to a glazed ceramic bowl or glass bowl, but I would say you want to change regularly, and keep the bowl clean.
Now, just how much daily water intake your dog needs, depends of course on his physical activities and the type of food the dog eats. Keep in mind that panting is your dog’s way of sweating. This is your dog’s way of regulating its temperature. When your dog is panting dog is sweating, it needs to drink. I mention one other fact, in this is that your dog generally needs 1 quart of water for every pound of dry dog food. But what I really want to make sure you understand is that with out water, your dog can die very quickly. As I said above, your dog could die within three days without water.
And I’ll remind you once more that if you do own a dog, be sure to thoroughly understand its needs and behavior.
