If interacting with the puppy the first time, have your son or daughter sit on the ground with her legs crossed. Little by little carry the new puppy up to him or her. Give the dog a few moment to sniff, but don’t force him to get it done. When he’s completed sensing her odor, pick him up and place him on your child’s lap even though she actually is sitting on the floor. Allow your child pet the puppy, constantly applying her “gentle hands”.
