One of the many similarities you can probably find between proud owners of a pet dog is their ability and success stories of dog training. This is especially true when considering that many new owners of a puppy have no idea how to get their dog in line, and it always seem as if the puppy is going all out in annoying them.
While it is no doubt that getting your dog’s behavior in line is a long and complicated process, it does not necessarily have to be that difficult! Read on to discover some tips and training principal that can help you with just that can save yourself the endless headache!
Rewarding Your Puppy Fairly
One of the most effective and powerful tool at your disposal is having a reward system for your puppy. One of the perks of having a reward system is that your dog will and can understand what they are being rewarded for, for example when you reward them with snacks when they’ve just performed a desirable action that you want. On the other hand, only using punishment can sometimes not get it’s desirable effect because you must punish your dog immediately after they misbehave, even a 10 minutes delay will lose it’s effect because your pet have a very short memory attention span and will not understand what they were being punished for.
One Step at a Time
It is no secret that you’re extremely psyched and excited for your puppy to learn a host of tricks that you can be proud of! However the bad news is this, you can only train your puppy one trick at a time. Trying to teach them too many new tricks in a day will almost always never give you the results that you really want. This is because your dog have limited ability to learn and thus teaching too many things at a time can have an adverse effect because you’re essentially overwhelming them and leaving them more confused than before. Thus be sure that your dog fully understands a command before your move on to the next.
Are You Frustrated?
Sometimes pet owners lose their patience and temper and will no doubt lash out on their dog. Whenever you find yourself facing this situation, you have to stop and think, why in the first place are you doing this? Were you trying to share a special bond and moment with your pet, and in the mean time have fun? If that was true, you are not getting anywhere near there! So if you start seeing the dog training process as a chore rather than fun, then you need to start evaluating where it is heading and stop if you have to!
