So, What Causes Aggressive Dog Behavior?

Aggressive behavior in dogs is not really such a mystery. My wife and I are lucky to have two dogs who are naturally well behaved. Although one, our lab mutt, can be a holy terror if the right circumstances are present, his temperament is not unnaturally aggressive. Our shepherd is a pussy cat. However, not everyone is so fortunate to have such balanced dogs.

Aggressive temperaments in our beloved dogs are usually the result of both genetics and the environment. A dog’s environment can trigger aggressive behavior, particularly if it has a natural inclination toward aggression. For instance, people often blame a dog’s aggression on being abused or perhaps being trained to be aggressive. Abuse and training do account for some dog aggression as well as upbringing and the environment in which the dog has developed. Some dogs, of course, have a natural, inborn quick temper. So in that respect, it is important to do your homework on the kind of dog you have or intend to own.
